Our
Mission Statement
Introduction
Goldfields Credit Union is a financial cooperative owned by and operated
for its members living in the goldfields region of W.A. and beyond.
Our
mission is to provide members a superior range of professional banking
services at a fair price for service.
Business Philosophy
Our approach to doing business is simple: GCU's relationship with
members must at all times be beneficial to both the member and GCU.
A
fair price for service is an integral part of that relationship. In
return, GCU rewards member loyalty. Where a member keeps their savings,
investments and / or loans with GCU, they are able to take advantage of
GCU's Loyalty Package, which is designed to help minimize any
credit union transaction fees.

Members
Credit
unions have members, not customers. Each person who deposits money in
GCU automatically becomes a member of Goldfields Credit Union.
Membership entitles a share of the ownership of the credit union and the
ability to participate in the management of GCU.
Management
Credit
unions are the only democratically functioning financial institutions in
Australia. Members elect a volunteer board of directors, made up of
other members, to oversee the progress and development of the credit
union.
The CEO reports monthly to the Board of Directors on every aspect
of the operations of the credit union.
Motivation
Goldfields Credit Union’s priority is to give the best interest rates
possible on a member deposits and provide high-quality and low-cost
services provided by local people living in the region.
After
expenses are paid and reserves are set aside, surplus earnings are
returned to members in the form of lower interest rates on loans and
higher rates on savings, and avoiding and / or lowering service fees.
Resources
Local
credit unions like the Goldfields Credit Union share ideas, information
and resources on a state-wide basis as well on a national level via the
Credit Union Service Corporation (CUSCAL).
Australian credit unions are also part of a worldwide support network
that includes credit unions, state credit union leagues, a national
trade association (CUNA) and a worldwide credit union organization, the
World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU).
